Location: Preston

Client: Galliford Try

Duration: 8 weeks

Project Scope:

The demolition of Barry House, an old Department for works and Pension office block, making way for the new Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM).

Making way for the new Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) Bradley Group undertook the demolition of Barry House, an old Department for works and Pension office block.

Barry House Demolition

The 5 storey concrete reinforced building was demolished mechanically by demolition excavators and high reach demolition excavators fitted with rotating attachments in sequence with a crane protection mat as per an approved lift plan to prevent dust and debris from exposing the surrounding environment.

Environmental Commitments

Bradley Demolition undertook works with sustainable measures in place to save on CO2 emissions. A CO2 assessment, looking at all 3 scopes of carbon emissions, was carried out through monitoring direct & indirect haulage, van mileage, site HVO use and plant hours. By using HVO fuel in our machines we cut emissions by 90%.  By using mist sprayers connected to water tanks on machines for dust suppression, rather than hoses connected to standpipes, we managed to reduce water consumption by approximately 10,000 litres per day.

Lancaster University School of Mathematics

Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) Project achieved a “Health, Safety and Environmental Award”.
