About Asbestos

Asbestos is one of the UK’s major industrial hazards and is responsible for an estimated 4,500 deaths per year according to the UK Health and Safety Executive. It can be found in any industrial or residential buildings built or refurnished before the year 2000. If you would like to check if you are at risk, contact us now.

It is a naturally occurring mineral and was widely used in the UK construction industry from the early 1900’s onwards to provide insulation and protection against fire and corrosion. It occurs in a wide variety of building products and poses little risk unless disturbed. Asbestos containing materials (ACMs) become hazardous when they are disturbed and release fibres into the atmosphere. If the fibres are inhaled they may give rise to lung cancer, mesothelioma or asbestosis. The people most likely to be exposed to asbestos are those working in the construction and building maintenance industries.
