Bradley Group was contracted to carry out the demolition of the former Shadsworth Leisure Centre. The scope of the Shadsworth Leisure Centre Demolition Project included mechanical demolition of the buildings, asbestos removal, infilling of voids, disconnection of services, external works, protection of sub stations and party wall works.
Extensive Asbestos Removal
Due to the facility’s closure several years prior and the increasing risk of vandalism, Bradley Group was tasked with overseeing the demolition and extensive asbestos removal at the site, including the adjoining swimming pool area. Acting as the Principal Contractor, Bradley Group also coordinated and managed subcontractors who handled the M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) strip-out within the building before demolition began.
Party Wall Requirements
The project required meticulous management, particularly due to the proximity of a live building connected to the leisure centre and the need to meet party wall requirements. Additionally, the site was bordered by existing roads, pavements, and adjacent occupied buildings, all of which required comprehensive traffic management protocols.
Effective Noise Management
Given the presence of adjacent live areas, effective noise management was a critical component of the project. To mitigate noise during the demolition and crushing phases, Bradley Group implemented additional sound barrier curtains at key areas as requested by the client.
Bradley Group also facilitated visits from structural engineers and supported investigation work throughout the project.
Ground Processing and Infilling Voids
Once the asbestos removal and demolition phases were completed, the team proceeded with ground processing and the infilling of the pool voids.
UK Safety Regulation Compliance
The entire project was executed in full compliance with UK safety regulations, highlighting Bradley Group’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in both environmental management and construction practices.
